ACC students joined local Austinites for the ninth annual Project Build-A-Park, a community service activity designed to help keep Austin's parks and hiking trails clean.
Volunteers spent four hours clearing overgrowth from the Green Belt hiking trails near Barton
Springs Pool on the morning of Nov. 6. They were provided with saws, gloves and other pruning tools to remove unnecessary growth from the trail, making it clear and more accessible to hikers, bikers, and joggers.
"I think it went great", said Angela Robertson, a Student Life coordinator.
She said that ACC staff members who attended the event thought that this was the best one yet.
"It was definitely a success," said Robertson.
Robertson was new to this event, having only been with ACC since July, and was impressed by the turnout and effort contributed.
Every year, Project Build-A-Park works with Austin's Parks and Wildlife department to help determine which parks and trails need the most help.
Although a portion of the volunteers come from ACC clubs and organizations, a majority of them are students who chose to invest their own time in helping to keep Austin's parks user friendly, said Robertson.
Among the many donations, Chick-Fil-A donated 600 sandwiches to help feed the volunteers. Other doners included REI, HEB, and Taco Deli who donated 300 breakfast tacos.
Volunteers were also rewarded with live music provided by The Baker Family which won Student Life's Music Showcase contest in April 2010.
They were also the first to see the new Riverbat dance performed by Student Life staff members. The dance, called the R. B. Step, was comprised for ACC's new mascot.
