Books

"American Rebel," the newest biography from bestselling author Marc Elliot, examines the face of Sergio Leones epic Spaghetti Westerns, Dirty Harry and the once non-partisan mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, Clint Eastwood. The biography will be available Oct. 6 from Crown.

"Crossers," a far reaching and pertinent novel of the violence and beauty of life on the Mexico-Arizona border, is Philip Caputo's most recent and intensely dramatic effort. "Crossers" will be available Oct. 6 from Knopf.

"A Touch of Dead: The Complete Stories (Sookie Stackhouse/Vampire Chronicles)" contains the characters and fictional events that spawned the instantly cult hit HBO series True Blood, and all of the stories are compiled within this one release. The anthology will be available Oct. 6 from Penguin.

 "Getting Back to Even" is Mad Money's financial television guru Jim Cramer's eighth installment to his growing number of sound advice and guides for the layman to invest and thrive in these dynamic financial times. Cramer is really a champion of the home portfolio manager, he is the truth. The how-to book will be available Oct.13 from Simon & Schuster.

Live Music

Every Wednesday, We Don't Need No Water presents DJ Pyro @ Chupacabra located at 6th St. and Trinity, 78701. DJ Pyro features hip-hop, funk, afro beat, reggae, 80s, dub step, Bhangra and more. There is no cover (21 and up only), the show begins at 9 p.m. and goes till last call. $1 beers until 11 p.m. and dancing is encouraged.

Horn driven funk pioneers, innovators and originators Tower of Power will be performing two shows and nine deep Tuesday Oct. 6 @ One World Theatre located at 7701 Bee Cave Road, 78746. The first show is at 7:30 p.m. and the second show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets range from $35 - $110, depending on if you would like to include dinner and the quality of seat one desire's. The show is all ages.

Ghostface Killah, the original masked gangster rapper hailing from Staten Island, New York City and original member of the Wu-Tang Clan will be bringing his rowdy stage act to the south Sunday Oct.11 @ Emo's outside located at 603 Red River St. (there is also an entrance on the 6th St. side). Ghostface is raucous and he possibly will have a drink or two with you. This tour is promoting his new album "Wizard of Poetry." Guest appearing with him will be Fashawn. Phranchyze, Dubb Sicks and DJ Notion will also be performing. The door opens at 9 p.m. (GFK is slated to go on at 11 p.m.?), tickets are $25 at the door and it is an 18 and up affair.

Local troubadour Mike Alford and his band Shed Alford and The Outstanding Warrants will be performing Thursday Oct. 15 @ Lovejoys Taproom and Brewery (yes they brew their own beer!) located at 604 Neches St., 78701. Opening up will be Spot (produced the Descendents, early Black Flag and Flipper to name a few) playing untraditional Irish songs and Mariachi Estrella will also be performing traditional mariachi songs. The show is free, all you have to do is drink a few adult beverages (or coffee) and tip your bartender.

Blues legend Buddy Guy will be gracing Austinites with his presence Friday Oct. 16 @ Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater located at 801 Red River St., 78701. Guy is a true electric blues legend and this could possibly be the last chance Austin has to see him live. Moreland & Arbuckle will be opening up, the doors open at 7 p.m. and the tickets are $25. The show is all ages.

Carolyn Wonderland, Pinetop Perkins (of the Muddy Waters band) and Willie "Big" Eye Smith will be playing a "Chicago Blues Show" Saturday Oct. 17 @ Antone's located at 213 West 5th St, 78701. To be blessed with so much amazing blues in 24 hours is really extraordinary. The doors open at 7 p.m.; the show starts at 8 p.m., it as all ages and tickets are $15.

Legendary Atlanta quartet Goodie Mob is having a reunion tour. Cee - Lo (Gnarls Barkley), Big Gipp, Khujo and T-Mo (the Mob hails from rap pioneers the Dungeon Family consisting of Outkast, Cool Breeze and Sleepy Brown to name a few) are slated to all be present. What is the deal with legion of reunion shows? Regardless, Goodie Mob's style and songs are classic and were highly influential southern gangster rap. They will be performing Saturday Oct. 17 @ Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater on 801 Red River St, 78701. And not to be forgotten, Houston legend Scarface (Geto Boys) is the special guest. The doors open at 7 p.m., the tickets are $30 and $35 and it is an all ages show.
