Over 100 bands, comedians and entertainers showed up at this year's annual Fun Fun Fun Fest during the first weekend of November.

Austin celebrates 24 Hour Comic Day

On Oct. 2, this year's official comic 24 Hour Comics Day, artists flocked to local comic book stores Capstone Comics and Dragon's Lair, where they suffered through the pains of writer's blocks, lack of sleep and hand aches to attempt to create a comic book within 24 hours.

The Texas Capitol building was on lockdown after gunshots were fired on the south steps at about 12:15 p.m. earlier today.

ACC student Avy Gonzalez was interviewed by online radio station WEPA FM on Dec. 16 for his work with recording artist Sandra "Sandee" Casanas. Gonzalez moved to Austin in 2005 and while he still loves music, he is now concentrating on getting his degree in political science.

President Obama was greeted with applause and cheers when he finally stepped onto the stage at Rudder auditorium on Oct. 16 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. The president was there to speak at the Presidential Forum on Service.

African Event President

African Cultural Night

The African Student Association held a Cultural Night at Rio Grande Campus Novemeber 20, 2009. Throughout the first part of the evening, the audience was entertained by on-stage performances by comedians, singers, poets and dancers. Members of the association also setup a simulation of ritual African dances and chants to the rythm of the continent's musics. After the artistic performances, the Association set up a sampler of native meals for the crowd to enjoy.

Sign language musical to raise money for ASL event

The American Sign Language Friends United (AFU) presented the first ASL Fusion: A Sign Language Musical Performance at the Eastview Campus on Nov. 17. The musical performance was held to raise funds for ASL Rocks which is an annual festival that will be held at the Eastview campus on April 17, 2010.

Crowds gathered for the Big Texas Rally for Recovery to bring together individuals and groups from all over Texas to celebrate those who are living successfully in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction and to send a message to those who have not yet found recovery that hope is out there on Oct. 1 at the State Capitol.

Gagarazzi benefit sold out, raises $2,500 for Equality Texas

A vast majority of the crowd was clad in glamorous and unique attire for the Lady Gaga themed benefit Gagarazzi, Sept. 30 at The Highball. Gagarazzi organizers Haylan Teel and Dena Greenwalt said they raised about $2,500 in proceeds from the event, which were donated to LGBT nonprofit advocacy group Equality Texas.

Austin City Limits Festival review

It was a weekend of monumental moments from beginning to end. The 10th anniversary of Austin City Limits Festival proved to be epic and highlighted such acts as Kanye West, Stevie Wonder, Foster the People, Skrillex, Aracde Fire, and many more.

Over 130 band performed at the sold out festival Sept. 16-18 at Zilker Park where the rain Gods let up and showered festival goers with welcomed bursts of light showers.

Artists, graphic designers, and everything in between showcased their work at this year's STAPLE! Independent Media Expo on March 5 and 6 at Marchesa Hall. This was the first year the annual event was held on two dates instead of one, giving the opportunity for more guest speakers and panels.

Three finalists were selected at a board meeting on March 7 to replace current Austin Community College (ACC) President and CEO Stephen Kinslow who announced last year that he will be retiring this summer.

Culture diversity celebrated, unity promoted at Unity Jam

Students came out to mingle, sing, dance and eat free food as part of this semester's Unity Jam Festival held on March 1 and 2 at all campuses in order to celebrate cultural diversity. The festival, hosted by the Student Life Office, exposed students to a variety of cultures and promoted unity among different cultural backgrounds.

  On March 2, 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico and 175 years later, Austin Community College students and staff celebrated that independence on March 2 at Eastview Campus. The celebration, Texas Independence Day Multicultural Celebration, was hosted by ACC's Center for Student Political Studies (CSPS) in conjunction with the Center for Public Policy and Political Studies (CPPPS), and the history department.
