Local artist’s solo show contemplates human intuition through abstract

Bathed in light and nestled in the southeastern corner of building 3000, the Rio Grande Campus Gallery with its abundant wall space was the ideal location for the 2012 Art Major Exhibition held Jan. 17-Feb. 23.
Students, faculty artwork to be showcased at ACC exhibit
A group of art galleries, artist studios and other spaces will open their doors to the public to showcase art in the East Austin community at this year's East Austin Studio Tour (EAST) which opens Nov. 12.

For the second year in a row, students and faculty members from ACC's art department presented their work – a mixture of ceramics, drawings, paintings, sculptures, and prints – at the ninth annual East Austin Studio Tour (EAST).
All comic cartoonists and writers in this universe and beyond are challenged to create a 24-page comic book in 24 hours. October 2 is the official 24 Hour Comics Day, and the brave ones that deem themselves capable of taking up the challenge have to finish their story, the art, the lettering and coloring in 24 continuous hours.
The best of ACC student art is on display at the Julia C. Butridge Gallery at the Dougherty Arts Center at the 34th ACC Annual Student Art Exhibit. The exhibit has been on display since April 2 and will continue until April 28.
Students and instructors display artwork in East Austin Studio Tour
Four groups of ACC artist showed their work at the eighth East Austin Studio Tours (EAST) at Graphic Glass Studios on East 5th street. The tour has extended from a two day affair into a nine day, two weekend event. Different art mediums, such as, ceramics, paintings, sculpture, and jewelry fabrication were featured within the tight range of studios in East Austin.
Student artists were given the opportunity to display and sell their work in the 33rd annual ACC Student Art Exhibit, held each spring. The reception and awards ceremony took place on April 7 at the Dougherty Arts Center. Eighty eight students' work was on display this year in a broad range of mediums.
This year's Spring Art Fling will be held at the Cypress Creek Campus from April 25 through April 30. The opening reception is on April 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibit will showcase art from ACC students and faculty as well as the Cedar Park community and Leander ISD.
The purpose of Veterans Day and Memorial Day is to honor the sacrifice and dedication of people in the military, but it isn't often that anyone takes a moment to personally thank a veteran. Austin based jewelry designer and former ACC student Carianne Schulte created a keepsake called A Pocketful of Thank Yous to make it easier for people to do just that.
In the first week of April, a celebration of Arts & Humanities called Carnival ah! will be hosted at ACC's Rio Grande Campus. Program Director Jodie Jinks, the theater director at ACC, and Dean of Arts at ACC, Lyman Grant, have organized meetings with a few dozen local art groups, including representative Grady Hillman, who is quoted as saying that "Austin does not have a good reputation of being a community arts town.

Over 200 artists participated in the seventh Annual East Austin Studio Tour, which took place Nov. 22 and the 23, to invite art aficionados into their homes and studios. Due to the closeness of the galleries, visitors from all over the city rode their bikes or carpooled from stop to stop to witness where the pieces were inspired and created.
The removal of a photograph featuring a nude woman from a Photographic Technology Department showcase has some students looking at Austin Community College's censorship policy, or lack thereof. With many questions unanswered and issues yet to be resolved, one ACC student would like to figure out what happened to her art.

Walk through the front doors and into Austin Community College's Rio Grande Campus and you may not notice anything out of the ordinary. But when some students took a harder look around the entryway, they noticed the sculpted faces hanging in a display case that have long welcomed them in.
Carnival ah! seeks to connect Arts and Humanities disciplines
Carnival ah! is an event that hopes to bring students from the Arts and Humanities division together through student projects and discussions. Both of these will focus on this year's theme: Voice, Identity, Dissent. Student projects will be presented at the carnival on Apr.
"We learn from the past, in order to understand the present. The past is our foundation..." These are the words of the famed photographer Arnold Newman, words that may have influenced his children's choice of the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas as the home for the complete archives of his work.

Imagine a time when festivals were held in the woods, far from the town common. Where men and women walked around in costumes, children and dogs ran amuck, artists displayed their talents and wares, poets stood on tree stumps and espoused eulogies of grandeur, musicians of various genres filled the air with melodies both somber and triumphant, jugglers juggled, dancers danced, metallurgists worked metal and fire dancers danced fire.
The 6th Annual Austin Community College Cypress Creek Campus Community Art Showcase, March 27-31, was proof that art flourishes in the far-flung bedroom community of Cedar Park. The event, coordinated by Cypress Creek Campus Manager Linda Haywood, showcased a diverse group of artists from around the area and abroad.
