The self titled album is confusing, but it is good and that is important. The eight tracks on "Ideal Soul Mart," initially sound like very simple garage rock that leads to toe tapping. However, give it another listen, and you will discover there are layers within each song.
Adam Luikart and Clay Fain do a very good job at finding the balance between vocals and instruments. They do not overwhelm the listener with a chaotic mess. Little touches like maracas lightly playing in the background and jangly guitar riffs, as shown in "Air To Be Shared," give their tracks a little more substance.
It is these small but important additions that make Ideal Soul Mart stand out above the rest of their genre. Of course, during a recording process, it is easy for musicians to add layers on top of layers with the help of Pro Tools and other digital recording programs. So, it is curious to see how these two band mates translate their songs into a live show.
"Ideal Soul Mart" is a great debut album, but with the band's musical background (Crawling with Kings and Friends of Lizzy), that came as no surprise.
