This semester’s Unity Jam activities will be held at each ACC campus. The Student Life event is meant to expose students to a wide range of cultures and traditions.

What better way to bring students together than with free food? One event managed to do just that. The Taste of the South was held in the student lounge at the Northridge campus on Feb.16. The free event was held for students and staff to honor Black History Month.
One of the outstanding characteristics of the ACC Northridge Campus is not only the 8600 students in attendance there, but also the presence of Sergeant Donald E. Seamster of the Campus Police. Seamster is head of security at the campus and has worked with ACC for 10 years.
Due to the generosity of former graduate and Texas' latest millionaire, Lauren Esparza, Austin Community College will receive $2.5 million, if the school agrees to add a new language course. Imagine for a second you're Texas' latest jackpot winner. You've paid off your family and close friends' debt and you're back from a European dream vacation, what's a millionaire to do? "I've been able to take care of my family, my close friends and now I'm ready to give back to my community," said Esparza.
On every Austin Community College campus, April 18 and 19, students were given the opportunity to vote for Student Government Association officers and elect the candidates they felt would best address their needs. Anastasia Trevino, a candidate for president, promised students she would "bring all [her] energy… experience… [and] dedication… to the students of Austin Community College.
When Audrey Maduell returned home to the Lakeview section of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, she returned to find most of her family's possessions ruined by the toxic floodwaters that inundated the city. "When I saw it, it broke my heart," Maduell said of her home of more than 50 years.

Located in a strip mall, this place is easy to pass because the small storefront gets lost with the surrounding stores. The Austin Community College Student Government Association members voted in an October 3 meeting to register with Capital Metro's Adopt-a-Stop program, and announced in the October 17th meeting that SGA had adopted the bus stop in front of Northridge Campus.
For spring break Austin Community College students affiliated with the Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) will head to New Orleans to take part in a reconstruction project with other Texas schools. "It's not just our group going, it's a huge group going," said Toni McKinney, president of the ACC chapter of CRU and a student at the Northridge Campus.
The body of an ACC student found dead inside a parked car outside Northridge Campus showed no signs of trauma or foul play, according to reports from Austin police and school officials. John Kevin Stewart-Smith, 18, was discovered shortly before 6 p.m. on March 28.
Student Government puts child care issue in spotlight
Cable network C-SPAN drew a crowd of students at Austin Community College's Northridge Campus as student government officers seized the opportunity to spotlight important issues. C-SPAN's Oct. 11 visit to Northridge in a decked-out studio bus as part of the "Road to the White House" tour put students on camera and brought attention to the campus on a sleepy Thursday afternoon.
Leave your hookah at home. At least that's the message Austin Community College sent student Xander Brown and his friends, who were smoking from one at the college's Northridge Campus. After clearing the issue with the campus' police and manager, Brown said he was told in an e-mail from an administrator not to bring the hookah back because it resembled drug paraphernalia.
Students at Austin Community College don't need a ticket to catch Las Vegas street magic, they just need to travel to Northridge Campus. That's where Rodolfo Cantu, also known as Xpider (pronounced Spider), can be seen performing magic for students. Xpider is a first-year ACC student and plans to major in architecture.
The Northridge campus held a school-wide health fair on Jan. 24 to kick off the spring semester. The fair provided students with information and ideas to keep their lives active. "We want to educate students and give them resources to tell students your health is important," said Jennifer Flowers, South Austin Campus Student Life Coordinator.
