The buttery smell of freshly popped popcorn and hot apple cider filled the air with the spooky sounds of Halloween-themed songs and frequent peals of laughter Monday afternoon as students carved pumpkins for Fright Week.

The National Society of Leadership and Success will present a leadership broadcast with Tom Krieglstein called "Leveraging Facebook, Twitter and Your Digital Identity in College" at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12 in room 8100 at the Riverside Campus.
It's Riverside Campus versus South Austin Campus, and the heat might be too much to handle. The winner steps into the ring with Northridge to battle for ultimate glory. Those of you keeping score at home may have noticed that the South Austin Campus slipped into the second round without competing in the first. Yes, there are an odd number of campuses so, South Austin Campus got a freebee pass during the first round. Once again we're going to hear what the students think about their campuses.

Students who love leisurely reading will love this affordable used bookstore, The Book Exchange. Upon walking in the door, you are immediately surrounded by shelves upon shelves full of books. There are more than 90,000 books in stock from various genres such as science fiction, romance, non-fiction, etc. However, one thing they don't have is text books. The staff is super friendly and willing to help you locate something you're looking for
Joshua Michael Bacak was elected the new student body president for ACC. Bacak was a senator for the South Austin Campus before running for President and also organized and led "Black Out," a student game night, and one of the biggest student led events. "I feel that I have the tools and experience from the five years in the Marine Corps, actually leading people, to excel," said Bacak of his qualifications for the position as President.
Lisa Heap dropped out of school her senior year as a biochemistry major. Five years passed before she returned to college. Since summer of 2007, Heap has worked on her associate degree in nursing at ACC. While attending ACC, she has decided to become a nursing teacher.
Smoking a quick cigarette before class might become more difficult for students if ACC's administration decides to change smoking policies. The Administrative Service Council (ASC) is scheduled to vote on this issue at their next meeting on April 23 at the ACC Service Center.
ACC will strive to procure twenty percent of its electricity needs from renewable sources by 2020. Committing to use a substantial amount of renewable energy is a lofty goal, considering that ACC has only recently begun to examine ways as an institution to reduce its impact on the environment.
Adam Oliphant Staff Writer Students are becoming increasingly concerned about global warming's impact on the earth's future climate. The first step to improve the situation is to quantify humans' impact by conducting a CO2 inventory. Some Austin Community College students are doing just that, starting at the South Austin Campus, to see how much carbon ACC campuses produce.
Students concerned about dwindling parking spaces may not see an expansion this semester, but a recent report has indicated that numerous projects are being evaluated in the hopes of addressing the parking problems that have plagued various ACC campuses.
Austin Community College's newest campus, located at 1820 Stassney Lane, on the northeast corner of the junction of Manchaca Road and Stassney, began construction in March 2005. Today ACC's South Austin Campus (SAC) is a beautiful 86,000 square-foot edifice that provides its 2,300 students with three stories of state-of-the-art learning space.
Contract awarded for parking expansion at South Austin The board approved to award a contract to expand the parking garage at South Austin Campus by one level and one half, with hydraulic elevators, to SpawGlass Contractors. Board members moved forward in April's regular meeting to approve the project, instead of delaying until May, due to concerns that the expansion may not be completed by the fall semester.
Clinton speaks to ACC crowd
In support of her mother's campaign, Chelsea Clinton spoke to a crowd of about 200 people Friday, Feb. 22 at Austin Community College's South Austin Campus. Under a banner stating "Hill Blazers: Our Voice, Our Future," Ellen Richards, daughter of former Texas governor Ann Richards, and Jehmu Greene, former president of Rock the Vote, expressed their support for Hillary.
The Northridge campus held a school-wide health fair on Jan. 24 to kick off the spring semester. The fair provided students with information and ideas to keep their lives active. "We want to educate students and give them resources to tell students your health is important," said Jennifer Flowers, South Austin Campus Student Life Coordinator.
Growth is nothing new to Austin and Austin Community College is no exception. As ACC continues it's expansion to include a great share of Central Texas, The Student Activity Fee Advisory Council (SAFAC) along with Student Government, sought an increase in the Student Activity Fee.
The new three-story ACC campus, which will be opening in Fall 2006 at the intersection of Manchaca Road and Stassney Lane, will offer single occupancy unisex bathrooms, available to both male and female students, along with the traditional gender-specific bathrooms on every floor.
