Student Life welcomed back students for the spring 2012 semester with a winter- wonderland-themed ice skating party Jan. 19 at Chaparral Ice in Northcross Mall.

According to Student Life coordinator Tynisha Wooley, the cold January weather was the inspiration behind the winter wonderland theme.

The goal of the event, which was open to all ACC students, faculty, staff and their families, was to celebrate the start of the new semester and answer any questions that students might have.

Student Life offered free ice skating lessons, warm and cold drinks, a food buffet of pizza, wings, and salad, and free ice skating. An ACC ID Card was the only requirement for admission.

For several students, this was the first time they had ice skated in a long time. Valerie Robateau, who grew up in New York where ice ponds are common, had not skated since moving to Texas. Robateau said it was a lot of fun, but scary since she had not skated in over 10 years.

For Azeb Woldegebriel, it was her first time ever on ice skates. The coaches at Chaparral Ice offered lessons and words of wisdom on how to keep from falling for first timers.
