Issue Five

As I write this blog, Issue five is already in the works. If you haven’t already checked out Issue 4, it is out now so be sure to pick one up and take a look - it looks great, and thank you all for coming through on your assignments and getting them in on time. We all appreciate it, and that is what helps this paper run smoothly. When you turn in your assignments, send in at least TEN of your best shots. At least. As this is a newspaper, try to take as many un-posed shots as possible. I know that sometimes it’s easy to fall into a rut of wanting to just pose someone and be done with it, but taking candid shots as well is what adds life to your subjects, and the stories that you are illustrating! Hey everyone, Did you hear that we won 27 awards at TCCJA as well as winning Sweepstakes? That means you are working for the best Community College newspaper in Texas! Pretty awesome, and there is still time for you to get involved with The Accent if you haven't already. Two things: Detailed cutlines, with "Attention Grabbers". Also, send in at least ten of your best shots from everything you are assigned to shoot, no less than that. Photos are due to me by 5PM Monday, October 31st. WOW! Our first issue is the biggest one to date since I have been here and in my opinion it is our best issue yet! Of course, that might be because of the photo on the front cover. I love the photo, and the layout design. Elizabeth Brown, ACCENT designer extraordinaire can make anything work! Because the last issue was so big, this issue must be smaller. There are currently no unassigned stories. Please email me if you are interested in shooting for us and if something pops up (that happens quite often) I can email you about it. Important deadlines for issue 2 are as follows and story assignments that conflict with these dates will be evaluated on a case by case basis: Monday, Sept. 26 - Final drafts due at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 - Issue 2 sent to...Issue 1 of Fall 2011

Is it a new semester already? Wow. Accent orientation was yesterday and it was good to see so many new faces and have many of you jump in and sign up for assignments, I can't wait to work with you all! That being said we REALLY need more photographers to pick up assignments, even if you only pick up one. Please check our editors blog for really good information, as well as the slideshow from yesterday if you missed it or need a refresher. If you are interested in volunteering for the Accent please email me at pictures@austincc.edu and fill out a staff application if you haven't already. Wow, have you seen Issue 11 out on stands yet?! It looks amazing, the printing was actually done right this time. It's very exciting. We have all of our stories assigned, so far. There may be some late additions and I will email the list of photographers about that if/when it comes up. Also, if any of you are interested in applying for any photo intern positions, or editor positions let Matt know. Deadline to apply is May 6th!
