Issue 4

10/25/11 9:04 PM

Issue 3 of the Accent hit newsstands today which marks the halfway point of our publications run this semester. With three issues left to go in the semester there are plenty of story opportunities for writers to volunteer for and gain experience, practice writing skills, and best of all pad that paycheck you can get at the end of the semester for getting published in the Accent. From here on out, all submitted stories must include all of your sources’ information. This means that anyone you interviewed for a story must provide you with some kind of contact information so we can fact check stories. Generally, most stories should have three sources. Here are the important dates you will need to know for issue 4 of the Accent: Friday, Oct. 28 by 5 p.m.: First drafts due...

In the rough of things

9/20/11 6:01 PM

The first issue of the Accent should be on campuses today and I'm really proud of how the issue came out. I can tell you from experience, working at the Accent has been very rewarding. This fall, Accent is undergoing a lot of changes. Our adviser Matthew Connolly resigned over the summer and returned to teaching high school journalism. Matt was a wonderful adviser who believed in us and supported the Accent staff, past and present, in any way that he could.  Matt was my first and only newspaper adviser. He taught me photojournalism in high school ten years ago and has been a huge influence in my life since. I hope to pass on everything that Matt has taught me to our new...
