The full interview with Tje Austin

4/30/11 9:40 PM

This article contains quote from this interview. How did you hear about the Voice auditions? One of my friends on Facebook sent me a message a couple of days before asking me if I was going to do it. Actually telling me that if I didn’t do it, he was gonna hurt me. What made you decide to go through with your audition? Because one of their requirements was to post some YouTube links. And after I posted some YouTube links, they just sent me a thing saying we really enjoyed it. After they said they really enjoyed it that really made me want to go. What was the blind auditions like? When I got out on stage, it was very nerve-racking. I wanted to perform well. I was nervous. You have four amazing music artists that have amazing careers and I really wanted to reach them. I wanted to...

SXSW Day Five: Hanson

3/20/11 10:18 PM

What better way to close this year’s SXSW for me than with the original Jonas Brothers, Hanson. This is my Justin Bieber. I’ve been a fan of this band since I was 15 years old. Yes, I’m showing my age here and ruining my credibility as a music critic, but the truth is that I freaking love Hanson. I have a shirt that I occasionally wear to this day. Luckily, Accent Editor-in-Chief Karissa Rodriguez happened to have a camera in hand to witness my squealing and oh-my-gods to document this for you. But I was excited, because I was going to see this band live for the first time in my life. As soon as I got... 1 comment

Video: Vanity Theft performing "Anatomy"

3/19/11 1:53 PM

As promised, here is Vanity Theft performing "Anatomy" at Speakeasy during SXSW. It was my first time editing after using my new toy, the Zoom H1 recorder, mounted on top my Panasonic Lumix camera. I have a funny story about getting this recorder that I'll have to share with you later.

SXSW day two: MTVU Woodie Awards

3/19/11 3:12 AM

MTVU had their third annual Woodie Awards and this year, they brought the ceremony to Austin. Accent staff contributor Bianca Flores surprised me with media passes to the MTVU Woodie Awards. We got red carpet access as well as floor seats for the live show. As someone who spend her formative years watching the MTV Video Music Awards, I was stoked to be a part of it. I’ve done red carpet interviews before so I know how chaotic they can be. You’re basically standing in an assembly line with other media outlets, and they just move the celebrities one by one for a quick five minute interview if you get that. But for this awards ceremony, there were a lot of people to interview, so we had to be selective, and we maybe got a minute with the artist. Bianca and I tag-teamed...
