Food review: Double Dave's near Northridge

Double Dave's Pizzaworks, the popular pizza joint located in the shopping center across from the Northridge Campus, is a fantastic place to eat within walking distance and is definitely affordable.

The lunch buffet between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. has a great variety of pizzas, pepperoni rolls, stromboli, dessert pizzas, and a salad bar. The price for the buffet is $6 including a drink if you are a student.

Since it's a buffet it is really quick to get in and out. You can eat within 10 minutes and the pizza is delicious. However, if you don't want to eat the pizza offered on the buffet, you can order from a variety of specialty pizzas. An interesting choice would be the buffalo chicken pizza with its spicy wing sauce, ranch dressing with mozzarella cheese and chicken strips. But I would not suggest ordering a pizza if you're on a time limit.

If pizza is not your cup of tea then Double Dave's also offers stromboli such as philly cheesesteak, garlic spinach and classic veggie. I tried the philly cheesesteak and thought it was spectacular and full of flavor. They also have stuffers with chicken parmesan, BBQ chicken, chicken ranch and meatball parmesan. Because I had the buffet, I did not get to try these but I have no reason to doubt that they would taste good due to the fact that everything I had there was very tasty.

The major downfall of Double Dave's is that besides the salad bar, the food is not exactly the best to put in your body. If you are on a strict diet or live a healthy lifestyle, I would advise to avoid this place. You may go in the mind set of having only a salad, but once you see and smell the intense aroma of the pizza, temptation will most likely bite you in the butt and the next thing you know you'll be stuffing your face with pizza and making your way over to the dessert. Other than that, Double Dave's is a great place to have a quick, scrumptious lunch at a very affordable price.
