Ex-ACC police officer arrested

Former Austin Community College campus police officer Orval Roger Miller was arrested Sept. 19 on two counts of child pornography possession.

Miller, 46, is being held in the Bastrop County Jail on $500,000 bond, and faces up to 10 years in state prison and a $10,000 fine on each count.

Miller was taken into custody in Elgin following an investigation launched in May when officers discovered a thumb drive containing explicit videos of children being sexually assaulted. The drive had been left in an Elgin Police Department computer and contained Miller's résumé and other personal documents.

The former sergeant, who worked for ACCPD from 1993 until 2006, and whose picture is present on the main page of the ACC campus police website, transferred to the Elgin Police Department last year.

Upon discovery of the child pornography, the department referred the case to Attorney General Greg Abbot's Cyber Crime Unit.

Initiated in 2003, the Cyber Crime Unit targets online child predators by assuming the identities of young teenagers in Internet chat rooms, and resulting in 600 arrests.

Neither Miller nor ACC College Police Chief Frankie Waller were immediately available for comment.
