Cypress Creek's new main building 2000 opened March 2.

The official grand opening of Austin Community College's Cypress Creek Campus Building 2000 was held on March 2. The event was attended by a large group of campus employees, Cedar Park and Leander city officials, and the public. The crowd filled the new plaza that was created in between the new and old building.

ACC Board of Trustees Chairman John Hernandez spoke first at the podium. He admired the community of the Cedar Park for allowing the building to be constructed. After which he began to name all of the city officials in the crowd.

Hernandez then brought ACC president Dr. Steven Kinslow to the podium. Kinslow addressed audience members including Cypress Creek Campus Manager Linda Haywood and Leander Independent School District Superintendent John Glenn.

Afterwards, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place in the main entrance of the new building. City officials and board members were then given personal tours of the building.

Kinslow said he was happy with the way the event unfolded and also appreciated the turnout.

"It was great," Kinslow said. "Most impressive was the participation from local officials taking time out of their day to show support."

The new building, which opened up at the beginning of this spring semester, now serves as the epicenter of the campus. The building includes the welcome center, cashiers office, and admissions and counseling offices. All offices are now able to be housed together due to the 70,000 square feet added to the campus size.

The renovation of the original building, Building 1000, should be completed by this summer.
