Austin Community College's Board of Trustees might have a very different look in 2008.
Three seats on the board will be up for grabs next spring, when the six-year terms of trustees John Hernandez, Nan MacRaven and Lilian Davis expire.
The vacancies will present a rare opportunity for others looking to help shepherd the college into its next six years to have a place on the nine-person panel. The growth of the college, spurred by a recent report from the Austin Chamber of Commerce, in addition to the potential expansion of the ACC district into Round Rock and other surrounding areas, will be a central issue for those vying for a place on the board.
Hernandez, a real estate broker and St. Edward's University graduate, was elected in 2002, and currently serves as chair of the board.
McRaven, the board's vice chair and a former vice president of the Austin Chamber of Commerce, has taught classes at ACC. She was also elected in 2002.
Davis, initially elected in 1996, is the second longest tenured member on the board, and also serves on the Board of Directors of the ACC Foundation.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for selecting and evaluating the College President, as well adopting college plans and policies.
The election will be held on May 10.
